Credible Carbon

Credible Carbon

We annually compensate for the environmental impact of our operations through Credible Carbon.

Credible Carbon is a registry that sells credits from projects that are independently audited against carbon market standards that have been approved by the UNFCCC. They pride themselves on creating a transparent and robust carbon trading system that gets as much money as possible to projects that are part of South Africa’s climate change solution.

Bjorn Afrika chose the Tswalu Kalahari Reserve Rewilding Project, which involves two primary interventions aimed at restoring ecosystem functioning and combating climate change. The third intervention is aimed at poverty alleviation. All three interventions have required significant upfront investment and go beyond existing regulatory requirements in South Africa.

Carbon Tanzania - CSR

Carbon Tanzania

For every East African Itinerary booked through Bjorn Afrika from January 2025 onwards, we automatically include the cost of carbon credits from Carbon Tanzania to compensate for the carbon footprint of your journey.

Carbon Tanzania is an impact-driven social enterprise making the protection of forests and biodiversity valuable to Tanzania and its people.

Forest conservation is one of the most cost-effective ways to mitigate climate change and conserving forests brings about positive and measurable economic, social and environmental benefits to local communities.

The annual Impact Reports are robust and supported by data gathered in the field. They monitor and measure the impacts of the projects in the context of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Carbon Tanzania is committed to understanding and measuring the true socio-economic benefits of their projects to the communities with whom they work. By conducting social value research studies on all the projects, that listen deeply to the lived experiences of the local community partners, they are able to understand the social value generated by the projects.

Your carbon credits are specifically allocated to the Ntakata Mountains Project. Should you wish to opt-out of purchasing carbon credits to compensate for your footprint, kindly inform us of your decision.

Clean Energy from Nature

In February 2024, we announced that our Information Technology (IT) and Communications Infrastructure is now powered exclusively by renewable energy sources. Since then, we have extended this commitment to other energy-intensive devices and furthermore, as of December 2024, our air conditioning system has also transitioned to renewable energy.

On the 01st of June 2024, we commenced measuring the impact of our initiatives. Within six months, we successfully reduced our carbon footprint by 515.3 kWh, by harnessing clean and renewable photovoltaic energy. In total, our low-carbon energy consumption accounted for 54%, encompassing the non-fossil-fuel electricity generated by our grid-provider.
